Amazon Announces New Kindle’s
Yesterday, Amazon announced new additions to it’s line of Kindles. Here is the scoop:
Kindle Paperwhite
The classic Kindle eReader with 62% more pixels and 25% increased contrast. And, they have thrown in a built-in light. The Kindle Paperwhite starts at $119, and the Kindle Paperwhite 3G is $179, and ships Oct 1st.
Kindle Fire HD
The second generation of the Kindle Fire has arrived, with HD! The original 7″ size screen has been beefed up with an HD display, Dolby audio, dual stereo speakers, WiFi, and 16 GB of storage. The Kindle Fire HD is $199, and ships on Sep 14th. There is also a 7″ Kindle Fire, non-HD for $159.
But that is not all, Amazon is introducing another Kindle Fire HD that has an 8.9″ screen. This kindle Fire has 4G LTE capabilities, with a one-year $49.99 data package. The monthly allowance for data is 250 MB. 32 GB of storage, front-facing HD camera, dual-band, dual-antenna, and a 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor. The Kindle Fire HD 4G will sell for $499, and ships on Nov 20th. A 64 GB model is available for $599.
No word on a Kindle Fire trade-in program, even for orders placed in the last month before the announcement of new models. That may or may not happen. In the world of technology, you have to prepare yourself for refreshed models every year. Be careful on when you buy yours, as new models may come out if you are purchasing late in the lifecycle.
