Last Wednesday, Apple released OS X 10.8.2, right alongside the IOS 6 update. Information is readily available all over the web on what features were included in OS x 10.8.2, but not much information on how to utilize the new features.
For instance, one of the new features is Facebook integration, with the following items”
• Single sign on for Facebook • Adds Facebook as an option when sharing links and photos • See Facebook friends’ contact information and profile pictures in Contacts • Facebook notifications now appear in Notification Center
But what does all this mean, and how do I use it? I dug and found the answers.
First, go to System Preferences, Mail Contacts & Calendars, and click on the + at the bottom of the accounts list. In the list of account types, you will now see an option for Facebook. Type in your Facebook login and password. This will do the following:
Download your Facebook friends to your Contacts App and keep their information up-to-date. You can disable this syncing in system preferences.
Allow you to post status updates, photos, and other stuff to Facebook from your Mac.
Enable apps to work with your Facebook account, with your permission. This can be disabled in system preferences.
In the Game center, you can now do the following:
Share scores to Facebook, Twitter, Mail, or Messages
Facebook friends are included in Game Center friend recommendations
Added Facebook “Like” button for games
Challenge friends to beat your score or achievement
A handfull of other new features have been added:
Adds Power Nap support for MacBook Air (Late 2010)
iMessages sent to your phone number now appear in Messages on your Mac
You can now add passes to Passbook (on your iPhone or iPod touch) from Safari and Mail on your Mac
FaceTime can now receive calls sent to your phone number
New shared Reminders lists
New sort options allow you to sort notes by title, the date you edited them, and when you created them
The update took me about 15 minutes to install, and it was really simple. Of course, if you need any help or have any questions, ComputerDiva is ready to assist.
