Twitter and the Tour de France. . . .Huh?

Confused as to what Twitter is all about? Most of us are. I am even just now getting my feet wet and trying to figure it out.

This week, through Twitter, I found out about free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in Pioneer Square, as well as free bagels at the local bagel shop. Today I found out on Twitter that Starbucks is giving away free pastry next Tuesday with the purchase of a beverage. How does all this work?

Well, I signed up for a Twitter account a few months back and at the time thought it was trivial and useless. I have dived into it the past few weeks though and have found out a wealth of information.

So you are probably asking: What the heck is Twitter? It is a free social message utility for keeping in touch real-time, in the form of Tweets. Tweets are limited to 140 characters. For instance, you create a tweet describing what you are doing, researching, thinking of doing, etc. Your “followers” receive the tweet real time in their Twitter feed and see what you are up to.

Why? What is the purpose? Well, I dont have quite enough space here to go into the why of it all, as there are dozens of uses for Twitter. I’ll give you a few examples of what I do with it though. I follow Starbucks to see what is going on with them. I follow Woot to find out what their sale of the day is. I follow the LPGA to see what they are up to. I follow the White House to see what is going on with the President. I follow the local news station, KGW to see what the breaking news is. The list goes on and on. If you want to follow ME on Twitter, my Twitter name is ComputerDivaMJB. If you have a Twitter account, just add me to your Followers list.

So, long story short, I ran across this article on Twitter and the Tour de France that I found very interesting, and thought I would pass it on to you all.

I am sure you will see me write, or tweet about Twitter in future postings.

Have a great weekend everyone!
